Regent Park Agricultural Hub

Regent Park Agricultural Hub

TYPE Pavilion
SIZE 4,500 sf
YEAR 2015
LOCATION Toronto, Canada

The Agricultural Hub acts as a centre for urban agricultural activity in the revitalized community of Regent Park. It ties together disparate functions under one continuous, iconic canopy. Constructed of lightweight steel members that fold and twist, the canopy has a more impactful presence than a conventional structure of this size has. This folding form responds to the park, ‘book-ending’ the central playing field.

Throughout the design process, RAW met with and presented to multiple community user-groups and stakeholders, and addressed their concerns and aspirations in the final design. This collaboration has resulted in a dynamic project which continues to engage the community that played suchh a key role in its development. The Hub shelters a greenhouse that grows herbs for a neighbourhood cooking school, an off-leash dog area, a wood-fired pizza oven, outdoor meeting areas, and storage for communal garden supplies. The roof provides moderate sun and weather protection, defines discrete program areas and links these in a continuous structure framing the landscape.
