The growing congregation of Christchurch St. James was quickly running out of space for programs such as the foodbank and a very successful lending library. The addition introduces a much needed narthex within an innovative structure as well as an enlarged library and foodbank space, and provides a more transparent, inviting presence for the church. It was important that the church remain operational throughout the construction phase, and measures were taken to ensure that all church functions went uninterrupted. Bi-weekly meetings with the congregation-appointed church building committee, and subsequent presentations to the Diocese, ensured close collaboration throughout the design and construction phase. Construction was completed in early 2013, and the church is thrilled with the end result.
