LOCATION Gravenhurst, Canada
Looking to downsize from their Muskoka Lake home our clients bought a large property on a nearby lake. What closed the deal was a large granite rock outcropping which dominated the site.
RAW used this rock as the fulcrum for the cottage. Carefully wrapping a layer of circulation around it and disposing each room in the cottage as a separate and discrete volume. As occupants pass from one room to another they will be walking past and around the granite. This will afford an intimate and timeless view in contrast to the more open and expansive views to the lake. The corridor is also used as a passive cooling measure drawings air from a low level and venting high on the opposite walls.
